India Rushes Aid to Sri Lanka under Operation Sagar Bandhu
Following the devastation caused by Cyclonic Storm Ditwah in Sri Lanka, which resulted in at least 80 deaths from severe floods and landslides, India launched a major humanitarian relief effort. The mission, codenamed Operation Sagar Bandhu, saw the dispatch of essential aid, including approximately 12 tons of tents, blankets, and ready-to-eat food.
The Indian Navy utilized assets like the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant and the frontline ship INS Udaigiri, alongside an IAF C-130 J aircraft, to deliver the crucial supplies to Colombo. This highlights India's "Neighbourhood First" policy commitment to disaster relief cooperation in the North Indian Ocean region.
