GRAP-IV Enforced as Delhi Air Turns Severe+
Delhi-NCR enforced Stage IV of GRAP after air quality deteriorated to ‘Severe+’, with the CAQM invoking emergency curbs.
The Air Quality Index touched 441 by evening, nearing the 450 threshold that triggers GRAP-IV, making it the worst air day of the year so far.
Stage IV measures ban all construction activity, restrict entry of non-essential polluting trucks, and mandate hybrid schooling except for Classes 10 & 12.
Diesel-run BS-IV and older heavy vehicles are barred, while offices must operate with 50% work-from-home where applicable.
GRAP categorises air quality into four stages—from Poor (201–300) to Severe Plus (>450)—and GRAP-IV adds to curbs already in force under earlier stages.
The deterioration was attributed to unfavourable meteorological conditions, with forecasts indicating ‘severe’ air likely to persist.
