Grant of Communal Electorate

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar demanded a separate electorate for the depressed classes, but Mahatma Gandhi opposed the grant of separate electorate to the depressed classes (so called untouchables) in form of Communal Awards for a period of 20years.
Communal Award was indeed based on the findings of the Indian Franchise Committee, also known as the Lothian Committee
